Hands-on/in the field
I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. My main body of work is primarily broadcast, but I regularly produce print articles for both online and print publications. From developing concepts for solid stories to completed final products, I am adept at producing both broadcast and print work.

My teaching style is a combination of techniques I found successful during my educational studies. First, I believe the teacher has to be passionate and have a true love for what he or she is doing; this is passion, or lack thereof, is evident when interacting with a student. Second, patience is of upmost importance. In my experience, nothing inhibits learning as much as a rushed or pressured feeling when one is trying to learn. I get them to read out loud to me to see what their level of reading is. Some kids have problems sounding out the words or with simple rules of grammar. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors.
