Experienced Educator who wants your child to love learning.

I have been a full-time classroom teacher at all grade levels for the last 12 years. I also have several years as a substitute teacher. I specialize in differentiating instruction for all learners. In addition, I can teach reading and writing skills using authentic sources and classroom subject matter so that students don't fall behind on content-learning at the expense of practice with unrelated materials.
I have a very engaging manner with students. I feel that learning is a joy, rather than a chore and I try to pass that attitude on to my students. I use frequent checks for understanding and reteaching when necessary. I also believe that a student's own insights and questions can guide learning to its highest levels.

My comments on tutoring Government : Our government is large and quite confusing. I'll teach you how to remember which branch does what and why.

I go with the styles that fit the student. I generally use the first couple of visits to assess what works best for the student and then work with the student in a calm and patient yet firm manner. I do not try to force results, every student learns differently and has different aptitudes. Therefore, it wiser not to push the student too hard for results, rather I push myself to find new and inventive ways to help students learn the material.
Took three years of college courses on Psychology at Ashford University, trained with a Computer Troubleshooting Specialist for four years, have two books of my own written word poetry published. In my time at Ashford I picked plenty of shareable skills, study skills, time management, and using my keyboard to it's fullest potential to meet deadlines. More About This Tutor...

My career in education began thirteen years ago. I started by volunteering in my son's classes as well as in the library. While volunteering in the library, I taught children how to do to research, write essays and reports, construct Power Point presentations and, finally, how to present their work in front of their peers. I attended the substitute training course and, as a substitute, I have worked with children of all ages and backgrounds as well as in all subjects. More recently, I received my BA in History and my certifications to teach Elementary Education, Art K-12, Earth/Space Science 6-12, and Social Studies 6-12 (which encompasses US history, World History, Geography, Psychology, Religion, and Sociology).

A Little Bit About Me...

Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.
I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.

I first used my teaching skills while acting as a tour guide at the Astor House Museum in Golden, Colorado. I enjoyed communicating with school groups the history of the house museum, which was once a hotel back in the 19th century for travelers heading out to California to seek their fortune in gold. I presently work at Rosetta Stone and enjoy using my linguistic knowledge as a language consultant to help those interested in learning to speak a foreign language.
I enjoy working with junior high, high school, and college level students. I am able to communicate material that will encourage the student to be analytical and draw conclusions on his or her own, especially for subjects in the social sciences. I like to encourage students to explore and learn on their own, seeking out material that challenges their natural talents.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children and seeing them get excited to learn new information. I feel that all children are very capable of learning, just some need that extra one on one attention that is not possible to receive in a classroom setting. I love that look on a child's face when they finally grasp a new concept. By helping a child learn you are really changing their future.
Even though I hold a business degree I have always had a love for working with children. As a college student I worked for two different families as a nanny, where I assisted a total of five children with their school work and projects among other things. After obtaining my BS in Finance from the University of Central Florida I went on to get married and work in a bank. It was shortly after that when I realized that my real passion was with children. When I became pregnant I left my banking position to b ... read more

Apart from baseball, my second love is education. I feel that every student has the ability to grasp a subject or a certain idea. It is all a matter of finding out how that student learns. My main style of teaching is threw the Socratic method of dialogue and real world examples. However, I am very open minded, patient, out going, and I am not satisfied with doing things one-way. There are many different ways to climb a mountain but it is important to know the most productive.
After graduating from Jacksonville University with a BS in Business Administration, I joined the field of professional baseball. I have been playing professionally in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization for the past 5 seasons. During my off-seasons, I have been working for the Sarasota School Board as a preferred substitute mostly at Sarasota Middle School. I have taught in every subject at the middle sc ... read more

My style of teaching is relatively comparisons and having the student recognize the use of information as it is used daily. Thus, middle school math is my choice and computer science to instruct. I use tape measures, yard sticks, beakers, pie charts money, and all visuals such as: dam’s bridges, and buildings for measurements.

A Little Bit About Me...

After I graduated from college, I was hired to teach elementary school in Venice, Florida. While teaching in Venice, I also taught graduate classes for the University of LaVerne, LaVerne, California, in "Schools Without Failure". I have taught kindergarten through high school, plus I have taught at the graduate level in college. I have been a teacher in public and private schools. The majority of my tutoring has been done in the homes of the assigned students. At Florida State, I exempted all of my math classes. As a result, I have taken supplemental courses to help me tutor math, grades 1 through 12. I have also tutored higher science and English courses. I have tutored for the SAT/ACT/PSAT tests. I have taught French to elementary and middle school students during the past thirty years in Sarasota County. I taught French in classes during school and after school. ... read more

I would describe my teaching style as very patient, supportive and goal-oriented. I bring various activities to the class, including games and music, and generally let the students do as much work as possible, especially practicing speaking, writing, listening or reading. I learned that Student-Centered teaching is a good method and I try to use it as much as possible. I have a very clear speaking voice and most students find my classes to be fun and inspiring. I am used to being in front of people as a music performer and I find this helps in making the class more interesting and motivates the students to work hard.

Upon graduating from Queens College I obtained a position as a middles school science teacher in New York’s Spanish Harlem. After 2 ½ years of dealing with extremely difficult and dangerous situations I decided to move on to take various careers in industry. In 1985 I became the field service representative for NEC America. As a field service representative I traveled around the United States giving seminars to electronic technicians on how to service and repair NEC’s cellular equipment. In 1989 with the birth of my first child I became a full time Mr. Mom. When my two children were old enough I returned to teaching as a Varsity Soccer Coach and Substitute Teacher in Florida’s Charlotte County Public School system. I feel very confident substituting for teachers of Social Studies, English, and Science grades 5-12. For more than 30 years I have been studying the classical guitar. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Depending on the subject I use a highly academic and focussed style of teaching. If it is communication like English, Writing and Journalism , I use a lot of teacher-generated materials. I am very flexible and would like to meet the needs of a particular student by administering some kind of a skill inventory survey to identify his or her style of learning. An inventory of his interests and skills will also be a good tool for me to assess the student's strengths.
I taught public school in Florida from K-12 for the last 16 years. I taught for more than 10 years in the private school. I am still teaching part-time at a private company. My passion for teaching and the diverse subjects and levels of students that I have taught are two of my great assets that can be very useful in the tutoring profession.
