Never tell a child when you can ask him.

I have 6 years of substitute teaching experience in the Washoe County School District in Nevada, as well as at a charter school. Substitute teaching has allowed me to work with children from preschool to grade 12, in all subjects. I have worked twice as a preschool teacher, once at the E.L. Cord Child Care Center at TMCC in Reno, and again at His Kids Preschool, using A Beka Book curriculum to teach 2-4 year olds. Additionally, through the College of Education in the University of Nevada, Reno, I have completed several practica. These experiences include whole- and small-group lessons, one-on-one tutoring, Science, Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Along with these teaching experiences, I have four children, two of whom were schooled online at home for three years and in which I participated as a learning coach. My children are in Honors classes, Gifted and Talented programs, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Experience gained is not what truly counts it's ones desire to learn through experience that's seperates oneself. Through five years in college and five years in a special education classroom i have learned many things. What i take most from ten years of experience is a mindset to never-give-up. Most day's learning in the classroom are forgetable because the student does not retain information into their long term memory. Experience has taught me to strive for continual learning, not just learning but what needs to be learned. What needs to be learned, needs to not be forgot.
My teaching style is one centered around positive feelings. There is a word i learned in college by the name of rapport. In order to become successful in the classroom a positive working relationship must be established. No matter what you do in life a successful partnership must be centered around a comfortab ... read more

My teaching style is very creative. Yes, I believe in teaching the basics, but make learning fun. I like to do fun games or art projects or use music to inspire and teach the children. That way they will have fun and learn at the same time.
My experience is not as a liscensed teacher. I have been more of an assistant or tutor. I have worked with k-6th grade students-some of which are/were physically and /or mentally challenged.

A Little Bit About Me...

In attending the University of Nevada, Reno, I was introduced to and involved with several programs working with youth. I was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) working with children who were removed from their home for various reasons. (Parents were usually abusive). I also tutored Autistic children in the Early Childhood Autism program at UNR for almost two years. This program has offered me unique training and qualifications for tutoring youth, not just Autistic children. I minored in Criminal Justice, and took several additional English classes outside the necessary classes required for graduation, as I find English, among other various disciplines, to be quite a strength for me.
Not only working with children, but teaching them has always been a passion of mine. I have worked at the YMCA of the Sierra for almost 4 years, and tutoring children through UNR has been such a ... read more

I believe each child has his or her own style of learning, and part of the joy of teaching is discovering a child's unique way of achieving academic success. I believe a hands-on approach is crucial in mastering and applying new information. I believe all children have the ability to learn when they are given the keys to unlock their learning style. I believe learning should be fun and not frustrating. I know that teachers can have a huge impact in their students' lives. Children need to be encouraged and mentored. I feel blessed to help children unlock their academic potential.
After receiving my teaching credential from Biola University, I eagerly accepted a permanent substitute position at Mission Hills Chrisitian School. I believe that students learn best by doing. I am a very hands on teacher. I like when my students are out of their seats and making discoveries through experiments and exploration. I also am a firm believer in the multiple intelligences. I believe that when these intelligences are incorporated in to teaching, that each student then has an equal opportunity to learn.
My first degree was in Environmental Studies. After graduating, I took a position with a local non-profit where I taught recycling education to school aged children. I enjoyed teaching so much that it encouraged me to return to school to obtain my elementary education license. Since then I have taught both Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade. I am currently obtaining my Masters in Special Education. I have also been an after school tutor for a year for elementary aged children.

I have been preparing and conducting adult coursework for a variety of computer - based applications and software for 15 or more years. The courses were done in large lecture environments (30 or more at a time) and also small or individuals sessions, and remote (phone and web-ex) deliveries. I am experienced in assessing group attitude and individual needs and am told that I am very adept at putting my "students" at ease, both through delivery style and in customizing and breaking down the materials for the particular person or group. I am a mother of 2 grown children and one young grandchild. When my children were in elementary school I volunteered at least 1/2 day each week in their classrooms - helping as needed. Sometimes that meant a little extra time with a student learning to tie his shoes, and other days reading to a circle of children.
I love helping others learn an ... read more

I am a recent graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno. I earned my BS in Finance through the College of Business Administration which enabled me to gain experience in different subjects such as math, economics, accounting, information systems, and marketing. I also used to tutor other, younger students when I was in high school.
I am a very understanding and considerate person and my teaching style reflects that. I have been counseling a week-long church camp in southern California for the past 5 years now and I absolutely love doing it. The ages are 9-12 and I look forward to it every year. I have also worked with older children when I worked at the Boy's and Girl's Club. I definitely believe a successful tutor can really change the life of a young adult by stressing the importance of education. A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people achieve their dreams and goals and I have high expectations for all children and adults I am teaching. As an educator I encourage my students to believe in themselves and convince them they have the ability to be successful in whatever they want to achieve. One of my students was struggling with C's and D's for grades and he was getting extra help but he was frustrated. Once or twice a week we would chat about it. I encouraged him to put forth a little more effort and I promised him his studies would get a little easier over time. Sure enough I saw the young man the following year and he came running up to me to tell me he made the honor roll. I never gave up on him and I know I played a part in his success.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. Having spent a lifetime in the business world, I have a more practical, down to earth, hands on approach to learning. Learning by doing is a Boy Scout approach to learning. As a Boy Scout Leader for many years, I recognized this teaching method, because this is how I learn. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. A few good educators can make a world of difference in a child's education.
