My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Tutored young children for two years in the phonics and watched them improve greatly. Phonics is the corner stone to the path to being a proficient reader.

I believe that the youth are in dire need of adults that have a heart to teach. As a teacher of your child, I want to be able to spend that time as productive as possible. I taught English as a second language to adults in Fes, Morocco for two years and taught kindergarten through high school in Seoul, Korea for 10 years. When training employees, my teaching style has always been to learn by doing. I believe that people do best in learning a new task when one explains the task before doing, then shows how to do the task while explaining, and then asks the trainee to do the task with guidance. The same goes for teaching an academic subject - explain how it is done, show a couple of examples while explaining, and then ask them to try with guidance. If this method of teaching is not working for a particular student, I will adapt my teaching to fit his/her needs.
