Drawing is one of my top subjects! I teach the tools and skills to draw from life, from foundation level to advanced. Working from still life, the landscape and possibly any subject matter that interests the student, we will learn how to translate what we see into convincing and successful renditions in graphite pencil, charcoal, or pastel. We'll start with basic drawing skills, developing proportion, shading and composition and move on to tackling ambitious projects, capturing a convincing sense of light, and playing with the poetics of drawing. One-on-one attention is given in a supportive and creative atmosphere.

My teaching style is encouraging and stimulating. I love what I do and I really enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I instruct specifically to the level of the student: from beginner to highly advanced. I've also been told that I'm pretty funny but you'll have to make up your own mind about that.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in both Studio Art and Psychology from Brandeis University, Boston, and continued my studies for two years at the Jerusalem Studio School in Jerusalem, Israel, as a member of the Master Class with Israel Hershberg. I then received my Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and went on to teach at the Delaware College of Art and Design,Swarthmore College and Cornell College, as well as offering private lessons to all ages. I currently teach art online for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

I have always had a strong appreciation for education and learning new things. My educational experience was strengthened when I attended Cornell College, which has a strong liberal arts program. I immediately took an interest in the sciences and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-medicine. My education was additionally complimented when I immersed myself in several language, mathematic, English, and humanity courses, which gave me a strong diversity in the liberal arts curriculum. Due to the smaller class sizes at Cornell, most of the exams were given in essay form, which strengthened my writing skills immensely. A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a passion for reading all of my life. I pursued a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, which I received in 1973. I have taught children of all ages and disabilities in all academic areas. I prefer working with younger students. I have been published in a national education journal, "The Clearinghouse." I had an assistantship to an ecucation professor at the University of Iowa, where I received my master's degree in special education. I have woeked in small-group and one-to-one settings. I am now substitute teaching with all children of all ages and levels.

I attended Sarah Lawrence College, where I studied English and Spanish literature, Ancient Greek, history and philosophy. I graduated with an MFA in English from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in May of 2008, and I am currently the Provost’s Post-Graduate Writing Fellow in fiction at the University of Iowa. I have three years of experience teaching college students in English and creative writing. I have also occasionally tutored students at the University of Iowa in Ancient Greek.
