A Little Bit About Me...

I entered college in my late twenties and have been involved in some aspect of learning ever since. I was able to complete my BA in Psychology and Religion as Cum Laude and my MA in Counseling Psychology with a similar GPA. Since graduating I have had the opportunity to work with children and adolescents in a counseling capacity which often mirrors mentoring, teaching and leading. I obviously have experience in psychology and religion. As well, I have extensive experience in writing for my career, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, etc, and in school with the many research papers, summaries, reviews, etc. This has allowed me to hone my grammatical skills, comprehension and analytical skills.

I tend to employ a quiet but direct approach to learning. Q and A sessions begin each session. We review the homework and past experiences of the student. I encourage students to write down their concerns and mark the areas of confusion at the time these arise. That way the students don't forget to bring them to my attention. I like to break down large projects into smaller components. The success of the student is the primary goal. A feeling of accomplishment is a close second. I back step and reteach as necessary. My teaching style is one in which I find ways to relate content to the students' everyday lives. I like to balance textbook knowledge with practical applications and cultural relevance. I also am a firm believer in planning lessons that require higher order thinking skills yet do not become overwhelming.
