My teaching style is to lecture with examples while students are following the process and understanding what needs to be done and how. Then myself and the students do the hands on together so they can either do the exercise from memory or follow my directions. Once the exercise is complete, I give them time to do it themselves. I repeat the materials at the end of each section and the end of each chapter and encourage asking questions. Training can be delivered in person for 1 student or a group. I like to make the students think logical instead of methodically deriving the answers. I try to concentrate on teaching problem solving skills, as this would strengthen their base. I tutor my peers and help them understand the programming concepts that pose a challenge for many. I was also involved in Society of Women in Engineering organization, where we visited middle schools to mentored girls to pursue science subjects. Open and flexible.Rule #1 is to listen to the student. Rule #2 is to teach the other the way I would want to be taught. My preference in teaching is to first teach the student the practical side of things. Can the student perform the basic calculations for example so as to pass the exam. Once the student has developed a "gut level understanding", then I can move onto the more theoretical understanding of the topic, depending of course on where the student is at. I try to make math relevant to life for math is a metaphor.
My formal background is in mathematics and statistics. I have been a computer programmer since 1984 for companies including Intel and Motorola. I am a devout reader in a wide swath of topics and authors. My yearning has been to mix scientific exploration while performing a social good.
