A Little Bit About Me...

I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I was licensed in mortuary science in 2007 and have been working as a funeral director and Retail manager for the past three years.
I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer). I also like to use real world examples when I can from my past experience, and encourage the student to do so as well.
When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my studies at a liberal arts College I gained a great diversity of knowledge and skills in many different subject areas. During my second year as a Religious Studies major, I began tutoring both native and ESL college students in Philosophy, theology, and a number of upper-level religious studies courses, many of which were writing-intensive. I am currently a graduate student working toward a Master's of Theology degree, and am working as a tutor for the on-campus Writing Center.
