My comments on tutoring Writing : I have a MA in English and I have taught college level composition (English 101 and 102). I currently teach high school Advanced English.

I guide the student to his or her understanding of the material. I do not feed information. I ask that the student come to their own conclusions.
I have a BA in English and Creative Writing. I received a MA in English Literature in 2005. I began my teaching career at Calhoun teaching English Composition 101 and 102. Phonics and help for dyslexic students

Hands-on, creative, active, using senses to keep children involved, especially those with ADHD. Trained in the Orton-Gillingham method to use explicit, sequential, systematic, and comprehensive phonics, especially for children or adults with dyslexia.
While homeschooling my boys, I invented new ways to teach them to read. These methods turned out to be helpful to many students. I've taught children how to read for about 5 years. I wrote a series of books to give teachers methods to teach phonics in creative ways, published through Creative Teaching Press. I've published mountains of curriculum. Formerly, I was the editor for the weekly education section for the "Denver Post." My comments on tutoring Writing : I have given instruction in various types of writing in a classroom setting.

I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer).
I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.
