I am a current senior at Marshall University, where I am finishing my last semester. I will be graduating in May with a Biology degree, and a minor in both Chemistry and Psychology. I have seven years of upper level education experience with a wide variety of subjects. Four of those years I was involved in teaching and tutoring other college students. I also have worked with younger students, mostly with biology, history and research writing. I have done research in various fields of biology, specifically aquatic biology. I find I learn the most when I can relate a subject or theme to something current or more familiar to me. Finding something a student is interested in and trying to break down a complicated matter into simple, easy to remember parts when possible that they can relate to in an easy manner. As an undergraduate I tutored in the help center of WVSU. My last semester I had to choose between Biology and Chemistry, due to a schedule conflict, and I chose Chemistry. After graduating, I worked toward my PhD at Montana State University for two years. I worked my way through teaching labs, and completed 19 credit hours, before I had to move home for family reasons. I also worked in the help center during the day and held weekly study groups in the evenings. I believe that there are no boring subjects, only boring teachers. I teach so others may learn to find interest. My heart races when I help someone learn. We are always learning, and I will always be a student. My goal in elementary school was to be a marine biologist from the first time I went to Sea World. It was not until my last semester of my undergrad that I decided to change directions for my career and enter the world of teaching.
