Experience Summary
My goal in elementary school was to be a marine biologist from the first time I went to Sea World. It was not until my last semester of my undergrad that I decided to change directions for my career and enter the world of teaching.
I was a lab assistant in college and tutored chemistry, organic, biology, trigonometry, etc. I draw much of my inspiration from a summer internship conducting whale research off the coast of New Hampshire. It was a priceless experience that I will never forget. It was also the most educational experience of my life, so far. I am in my second year of teaching 7th grade science and have no regrets in career choice. I believe science is a passion that has to be taught, not a subject.
Teaching Style
I believe that if a student wants to learn, they can accomplish anything. As an educator, it is my responsibility to help all students accomplish their individual goals. The learning process is one of my favorite things to witness because it can occur at any time in any place. The incredible part of teaching is that the educator also learns.
Every student has a specific way of learning that works best for them. When the educator can identify a learning style that enhances understanding, that is when real learning takes place. I believe in focusing on discovery learning using 21st century skills and tools. It is important to prepare students with the knowledge that will make them competitors in the career field of their choice.
