I believe that in order to be an outstanding teacher one must exhibit a plethora of skills. For instance one must be able to multi-task and integrate many different occupations into the incredible job of being a teacher. You must be a police officer in that you have to be able to diffuse arguments if they arise (and they will). You must be a doctor, in that you must be able to apply bandages to minor injuries that can result from accidents during recess. I graduated with a degree in Physical Science Education, which gives me a strong background in Physical Sciences and in math. I have worked with children and youth of all age levels and nearly every ability. I ran an afterschool program for the Salvation Army, ran a boys home for troubled boys and worked in St. Paul City schools as a substitute teacher and a night teacher at an evening school. As a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, I had the opportunity to work in small work group settings and learned the value of tutoring firsthand. throughout high school, I had the opportunity to tutor younger students in first and second grade. Upon graduation, I was able to return to my old school and teach high school students how to excel in public speaking and forensic debate. These experiences have had a profound impact on my life. I like to teach using examples, either on a board to show a person step by step first. Then try to give the student examples to try to solve themselves. If this does not work I continue to breakdown a problem until we can clearly identify where the student is having trouble.
I have helped tutor friends’ kids on math from little school to high school. I have taken math all the way up to Differential equations and feel alright tutoring up to calculus one. I do not possess documented experience from schools or other organizations. I am a very highly motivated individual that does not mind helping others. I also have experience in teaching or helping coach little league sports educating kids on how to play games correctly.
