I have led reading groups and Language Arts classes. I have taught music lessons to a variety of ages and I have taught Music Theory and History at the collegiate level. My mother has been a teacher for 35 years and I have always enjoyed helping her in the classroom. I have a Master of Music and Professional Artist Certificate from the North Carolina School of the Arts.

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor. I have tutored for 3 years while I worked for Tryon Elementary school. I had great success with the students I worked with, in particular concerning math. I am very qualified to work in a tutoring capacity.
I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them. I am a mother of 3 children who are all very successful students. My eldest will graduate a semester early from college this month. My middle child is a junior in college and my youngest child is a senior in high school who will be entering college next fall. I speak of my children because I have helped them whenever they have had problems with their studies. When my older two were in elementary school, I was a coach for their Odyssey of the Mind teams. I pride myself on my understanding of grammar and am very good with math as well. I tutored elementary school students as a part-time job in college and later tutored students in my son's class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching both children and adults, from beginners on up to future music majors. Each student is unique, so I try to adapt my instruction to take advantage of each students strenghts. Those strengths may be musical background, ability to play by ear, strong theory skills, and so on. I also enjoy teaching different musical skills such as: Theory, ear training, and arranging. The thing I enjoy most about teaching, is seeing the excitement in a students eyes and behaviour when he or she really understands what a truly wonderful gift music is.
After graduation from App. State, I traveled across much of the US as a professional musician. I have teaching experience with both adults and childeren in both classical music and church music. I also have experience in recording as a producer and arranger.

Since I enjoy teaching students of all ages, I think I adapt easily to many personalities. I am a creative person and am always willing and open to using creative methods to make learning playing the piano fun and an enjoyable time for both students and myself. There is no greater gift than to be able to share my talent with others and see them proud of what they accomplish.
While my B.A. degree has give me the educational experience I need to pursue a professional career path, my real experience has come from my years of studying music. I have been playing the piano for 20 years and during this time have taught piano lessons for 10 of these years and have been a church pianist, organist and choir accompaniest for 15 years. I love teaching all ages.
