Journalism is one of my top subjects! I write periodically for a hometown newspaper.

I like to present information in a way that immediately engages the student and makes him or her want to learn. I have a great sense of humor and like to make learning fun. I give the student the information, help him or her process the information, answer any questions and make sure he or she understands by performing the task involved.
For the past 23 years, I have been working with the Testing Program for the state of North Carolina. I'm currently the English Content Specialist for Grades 3 and 4 Reading. I help to write the End-of-Grade Reading Tests for NC Public Schools. I have taught high school English for one year and second grade for 3 years. I have worked for the Kenly News and continue to write for them periodically.

I have a Bachelors Degree from the Univerity of Minnesota where I obtained my secondary teaching license. I taught ninth grade English for eight years in Morris, Minnesota and focused heavily on writing, grammar, speech and the Renaissance. When we moved to Raleigh, I taught 7th grade Language Arts at Fred J. Carnage Middle School for two years.
My classrooms were traditional with twenty to thirty students with a variety of learning and maturity levels. When I tutored students who needed additional help with the end-of-year writing tests, I worked with small groups of four to six, or one-on-one as indicated.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have participated in many study groups where I actively contribute information on the topic of interest; there we help each other and teach each other. Also, I'm the oldest sibling of four, I have had many years of helping out with homework and tutoring in reading, writing and math.
