A Little Bit About Me...

During my education program through the University of South Florida I had to complete 3 internships withing the Sarasota County School System. During my 1st internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom at Garden Elementary School in Venice, FL. In this internship I spent my time working with small groups in the classroom during their reading block as well as working with students one-on-one. During my 2nd internship I was placed in a 5th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom at Cranberry Elementary in North Port, FL. In the 5th grade classroom I worked with students in a whole class setting, one-on-one, and in small groups during both math and reading. Education is the central focus of my everyday life. I have obtained a BS in Management-Health Care/HR and 5 Associate degrees in Business Administration, Administrative Office Technology, Medical Office Technology, Legal Secretary, and College Transfer. I have been homeschooling my son since 2006 and mentoring students through a local church for just as long. In addition, I tutored in 1990-1991 and 1994-1997 while in college to earn extra money. I have assisted students with Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, and Mental Health issues. I have published my own poetry and have written a novel which I will publish soon. I love teaching and enjoy working with all types of students from remedial to enrichment as well as at-rist, non traditonal, and college students. I have a very interactive teaching style. I enjoy getting the students involved in the learning process. I encourage students to be active rather than passive learners. I also do my best to relate whatever subject I am teaching to the real world. In doing this, students have a better understanding of why it is important to learn such subjects as History, Algebra, and Foreign Languages such as Spanish. Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
