I needed to first, relieve the frustration – then determine what needed to be done to rectify the situation (through a question and answer processes). I am a pretty flexible teacher, utilizing technology and on-line resources frequently today. Earlier in my career I did more traditional lecture with a dose of Socratic method mixed in. I believe a key is to relate the material to something the students knows and cares about.
