A Little Bit About Me...

I rediscovered my joy for teaching in my Masters program achieving an M.A. in Theology and Popular Culture. I helped my friends build stronger research papers and better study habits. I have for the past two fall Semesters been teaching what I think are important skills for each person to acquire- reading, study and critical thinking skills. I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can break down the barrier to understanding that can be an automatic or habitual construction for many people. I am also an advocate of learning by example; I will walk through a problem or two, step by step, until the process becomes obvious.
