I love teaching. While I have also been a counselor and administrator, I managed to be able to at least tutor along the way, with a few exceptional years. I found that children were especially responsive to me, so I often found myself with elementary children (who, under my tutelage, managed to "catch up" an/or improve their grade point average -- often to their parents' delight). Since I love learning, children and teens "catch" my enthusiasm, and invariably get caught up with my honest excitement about a suject. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a strong believer in the Socratic style of teaching which, as you know, helps students themselves to think through issues and problems and discover the answer as we move along. I have always enjoyed leading students to that 'eureka' moment where they have grasped a difficult idea or concept, put it in their own words, and communicated it back to me, the teacher. I do believe that most children are capable of this kind of learning, at an appropriate level with their development, and do remember the information better than if they have learned something by rote, but not really understood it.
The past ten years for me have been spent teaching English and theology in a third-world setting in Africa, Nigeria to be specific.
