My comments on tutoring GED : I taught GED prep to inmates at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, NC. I am proud to say that even though I only worked there for just under a year, that I saw 3 of my students graduate.

As mentioned in my earlier description, I have eighteen years experience as an educator. I have taught students of all ages from early childhood through college and non-traditional adult education. I believe in making learning fun and engaging by relating concepts to points of interest for the individual student.
Tutoring differs from teaching in that "style" is replaced by method. Some of the methods I have used in the past are rhythm and music, neumonic devices, and of course, drill and practice. I have been told that I am gifted with presenting material in novel ways.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child has a different manner of obtaining and learning information and it is the instructor's duty to identify each student's learning style and to teach accordingly. Think of a key ring with all sorts of different keys on the ring. As a teacher you must try one key on the key chain at a time. Sometimes the first key will open the door to a child's success and other times it could be the fifth or seventh key. Teacher's need to be patient and work with their student's to best identify their learning styles and needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

Children have the ability to learn in a variety of ways. I learn the appropiate way to aide a student in their studies by observing their technique of solving a problem and helping them explore the problem. I show students how to break down the problem in various ways to help them better understand it. Some students need to work with a tutor on several problems; others may need a song or visual representations to help them understand a problem. I am a high energy type teacher. I like to do creative things to motivate my students and make them realize that learning math can be fun. Since I have tutored for many years I have a lot of patience and understanding for students that have difficulty understanding the material. I believe that anyone has the potential to learn, they just need time and a different approach to master the material.
