Every child can learn, but they don't all learn the same way

I have been teaching for over 10 years. I am currently a second grade teacher. I tutor during the summers and have students of all ages, including middle school and high school. I believe all children can learn. It takes a special teacher to find out how a child learns and create lessons to engage that learning style. What works for one student doesn't always work for every student. I am a loving and positive teacher by nature. I strive to be a teacher that my students will remember for life, because our time was such a positive impact on their success.

Make Learning Fun!!

I teach writing / grammar students based on their level of understanding vocabulary. Learning how to figure out the meaning of vocabulary words is key in successful writing. Word origin and grammar usuage is how a student builds their writing skills! Learning a wide range of vocabulary words (synonyms, antonyms, metaphors...etc.) gives the student more confidence and exercises the brain.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I majored in Journalism in college. I can help with basic news stories, features, editorials, AP Format, etc.

I have tutored many people in English Composition I and II, from community colleges to major universities. I work with (and have experience with) students as early as 5th grade. I cover all subjects related to Language Arts, Creative Writing, Composition and Journalism. I do qualify for my teaching certificate in Oklahoma to teach Language Arts at any grade level. I love working with students who need the most help. I am patient, kind, and humorous (when possible). It does not matter if I have to explain the same things a million times over, so long as the student grasps the information. I can tutor students 1-3 times a week for 2-3 hours/session or I can proofread/edit a paper if that is all that is needed. I can help any student improve their grade(s) no matter how much, or little, assistance is needed. I am proficient in MLA, APA and AP formats.

I want to help anyone of any age to succeed.

Junior in high school at Edmond North. I help peers of mine with help that they may need. I am in Pre-Ap Spanish IV, and will be continuing my studies to earn my minor in Spanish. I am also in school, so my mind is fresh off what I am also being taught. I have straight A's with one or two B's occasionally. I am in NHS- National Honor Society and I strive to do my best.
I am very simplistic when it comes to teaching. I like to over-exaggerate the thought behind the theory, so that the student could understand the full concept behind the reasoning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a one on one person when I teach or tutor. I homeschooled my son for one year before sending him to public school and found that to be quite rewarding. When I tutor a student, I like getting to know the student, their experiences and how their perceptions of topics that they will have to write about in the college arena. The reason is not solely for me to learn the student as an individual and help them specifically, but also to allow the student to learn more about themself so that they inevitably learn how to create definitve theses and write coherently. Before one can write well, they must understand the topics and how they perceive them.
As a graduate research assistant working on a creative thesis, I maintain excellent skills in written and oral communication. Throughout all of my work experience, which includes tutoring at college writing centers, private tutoring, ... read more

I believe teaching style depends on the student, and that student's learning style. A key element to determining this is knowing where the student's strengths lie--auditory, visual, or tactile-kinesthetic learning styles require different approaches, but a combination of the three enhances the overall understanding achieved.

More About This Tutor...

Even as a kid, I loved to teach and to learn. And one of the most important things that I've learned is that teaching isn't about asking someone to remember facts; instead, it is about giving them tools to help them think so that those facts mean something. My specialties are journalism, social studies, English, computers, and humanities at both the middle school and the high school level and my work is seasoned with insights from traveling the world as a teacher. From Korea to Amsterdam, from Oklahoma to Italy, all students want to learn and I help them discover how they can learn best.
I once was called an “eternal pupil” by a fellow teacher; it is easy to see why. After receiving my BS in Business Education I immediately returned to college to earn my MS in Business Education. Since receiving my masters I have completed 127 additional college hours which certified me to teach j ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

From early on in my high school career I understood that passing AP tests could mean graduating from college in 3 years, saving money for grad school, and a chance to get into the professional world sooner. That's exactly what I did. I had to take some summer school and intersession classes, but I endured. All the while I was involved with an organization on campus that worked to educate the student body on a number of environmental issues, worked with volunteers on events and campaigns, and trained my peers to take the same leadership that I did.
I am first and foremost a listener. I'm laid back and patient but understand that success on exams and in school does not come to most without hard work and challenging yourself to go out on a limb. I believe that the best way to learn is to make materials apply to you and things going on around you.
