I enjoy teaching and there is no greater reward for a tutor than to share knowledge to others and to see students grow in knowledge and confidence. I like to make learning as fun and with as little stress as possible. The environment should be conducive to learning. I try to adapt my style to the way in which the student can learn the most efficiently and most effectively. Since I have tutored for several years, I've found that every person learns slightly differently. The key to how I teach is to figure out how that person best learns. There is no such thing as a stupid person, just one who hasn't been taught in a way that they can understand yet. I am a firm believer in never giving up on someone, particularly when I know that they can do it. "Teaching" was the way I supported myself through college. I was a lab instructor, university experience teacher, cultural anthropology tutor, nutrition educator, and even a gymnastic instructor. I was thankful to find the College of St. Mary's Masters of Arts in Teaching. It is a solid program that has given me the opportunity to have a formal education in teaching. In undergrad, I was somewhat of a perfectionist looking for a way to help others. I found that being a tutor and a supplemental instructor allowed me to help others in ways I could never imagine. I became a California Reading and Learning Certified tutor and supplemental instructor in 2008 with a program called the Center for Academic Success at the small liberal arts college I was attending and recieved students asking for help in classes including english, college writing seminars, chemistry, and math. As a result of my help, the students' grades raised from F's to A's, B's and C's over time. I loved helping them and they appreciated me helping them.
