I have been teaching in various forms for over ten years. I was a teaching assistant for four semesters in graduate school. I mentored and tutored people during my time as a Naval officer. I worked for Kaplan Inc for about a year, teaching almost all of their tests, including SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT. I taught mathematics and statistics at Parkland College for three years. I am currently employed as a full-time instructor at a government laboratory...but I'd like to teach more, in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends!

My comments on tutoring Physics : Received an A in a double-paced college Physics course at Richland Community College.

I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. I like the process of learning, and it is a privilege to get to witness, or even positively influence, that process in someone else. I have been paid for my teaching skills for the past 9 years, in various settings, including piano instruction, guitar instruction, tutoring at the Community College in Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology, as well as assist teaching for the Decatur Public School District. A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) I majored in Accounting and minored in Chemistry and Pre-medicine. This path provided me with a well rounded education, which required me to take many courses in Chemistry, Physics, Math, Biological Sciences, Accounting, Tax, etc. As a student at EIU I was a Lord scholar graduating Summa Cum Laude with an accumulated GPA of 3.94/4.00. When I completed my masters degree my family and I moved to the Saint Louis area where I worked as a CPA and taught accounting and individual income tax at Southwestern Illinois College and Saint Louis University. After moving back to the Neoga, Illinois area I began teaching in the Accounting Department at EIU.

I graduated with a BS in Physics from U of I. Returning for grad school after the Navy, I earned my M.S. in Physics and did advanced work before deciding not to pursue a Ph.D. In the Navy I spent two years as an instructor at Naval Submarine School. During grad school, I taught Physics 211(Mechanics), 212(Electricity and Magnetism), 280(Nuc. Weapons and Arms Control), and 140(Physics for non-technical majors). I developed the curriculum and taught Phys 143(Waves&Modern Physics) for two semesters at Parkland. I have tutored physics at U of I, and tutored math in basic algebra and statistics. I would like to share my experience with the people I teach on how to use many of the short cuts in both math and physics for a better understanding of the topics covered. Also I encourage students to do as many practice problems as possible; I believe with enough practice, everyone can become experts even at the difficult topics.
The education that I have received in Biology and Chemistry enabled me to develop excellent skills not only in many of the life sciences and physics but also math. I've always been really good with the sciences and ever since I can remember would help my classmates. I have volunteered to tutor biology and chemistry in college for almost 3 years. I've helped plenty of people before exams in those disciplines and I feel comfortable tutoring.
