Dyslexia Tutor

Taught elementary education for 6 years. Also received 40 hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham method of dyslexia tutoring. Emphasized reading and writing with beginning students in primary grades, and spent a substantial amount of time working with students with learning disabilities. I have dyslexia myself, and found a tutor in 4th grade who, over two years, taught me how to cope with my learning disability.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching and learning are inextricably linked. Hence, I espouse to an approach that focuses more on tapping into the students learning schema than on teaching/tutoring per se. That being said, I am very interested in establishing the motivation/purpose for learning and then developing a plan, with the student, and where appropriate the parent, that will help the student achieve his/her desired goal and/or purpose.
Working with central city and at-risk youth is my life work.
