I earned my bachelor degree from the University of Minnesota Duluth in Teaching Secondary Mathematics and Secondary Earth and Space Science in 2001. Since that time, I have been teaching secondary classes at the same school which include: Earth science, astronomy, geology, transition mathematics, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and computer applications. I earned my Master of Science in Science Education from Montana State University in 2008. My thesis was on the effects of teaching through the multiple intelligences by incorporating art with the sciences. Sharing what I’ve learned about writing has been the most gratifying aspect of my work over all these years. I’ve learned that lecturing or directing is an ineffective, if not counterproductive, method of teaching. Rather, I prefer to help the student reach the same conclusions I have through questioning him or her, first about perceptions and then about what options exist for most clearly and accurately recounting them. I am patient and easygoing. I have two special needs children and my experience with them helps me to be understanding. I try to empbhasize learning the formulas that we use to solvbe the problems. If the students can understand how to solve a problem, then its just a matter of plugging the numbers in and their chance for success greatly improves. I have substitute taught for two years in the Superior, WI school district. Most of that has been at the HS and MS levels.
