My comments on tutoring American History : I recently received my B.A in History from SUNY Plattsburgh and I am currently pursuing a M.A in History at CUNY Brooklyn.

In the past I have engaged students with music, film clips and leading questions to put a new perspective on required reading.
As a student of history in both undergraduate and graduate school I have been trained to read actively, think critically, and write creatively. I worked as a teaching assistant for four years, while completing my Master's Degree. During this time I also did several leave replacements. I currently teach English Language Arts for 10th and 12th grade special education students. The students are emotionally and learning disabled.
The one word I would use to describe my teaching style is flexible. If something is not working and my students are not getting what I'm trying to teach I change my lesson plan mid-stream. Each student learns differently, and each class learns differently. It is my job to ensure all of their learning styles are achieved.

My specific style of teaching, especially for the 8th grade, is to read the current book being used, and then present my lesson with lecture, interactive discussion and comprehension, based on the age and grade of the student. I like to put the lesson into terms that the age group can relate to, and then assign a memory technique that will teach the students to recall the proper answer by using the examples we have discussed in class.
