A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and everything about it. I believe that anyone can tell you about a subject area, but I believe it takes a special person to be able to teach it to students. Not every student learns the same way. I like to include several different teaching styles to help every student have success. Whether it be lecturing, hands on examples, letting the students discover on their own through examples, using tangible items or practicing test skills I think I can include these different strategies to help each student succeed.
I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. I love to work with children of all ages and genders. I have worked with children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities as well as children of all ages, races, and genders. I attempt to make learning as fun and relevant to the child as possible as every child has varying levels of understanding and concentrations. I am extremely patient and can handle anything. I like to relate learning to childrens' lives (make it about basketball if the boy likes basketball, or about chocolate if the girl likes chocolate).
I was a peer tutor in high school for English and Spanish. I also tutored children in Hebrew at a local temple. In addition, I volunteered as a tutor for underprivileged children in Chicago in all areas: Spelling, Reading, Writing, Math, Language, etc. for grades K-8.
