Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. Because facts and figures are easily looked up in the information age, I place particular emphasis on thinking and on "learning how to learn". My teaching goals for any student are threefold: 1. learn the material (well!) 2. pass the test/subject (with a comfortable margin!), and 3. enjoy it (most challenging with math!).

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience has been in the corporate world, where I was responsible for training and teaching employees both basics and advanced techniques in the broadcast field of advertising. My success was in preparing them for an expanded career, and many of those that I mentored over the years remain in prominent positions at some of the world's largest advertising agencies. I have excellent writing skills and interpersonal skills, am very reliable, and very organized.
All ages can benefit from tutoring. I enjoy working with children, teens, and adults. I have a good sense of humor and encourage students to view the world from different angles. I taught English as a second language to adults and children in Austria and Germany while living there (total 4 years). I speak fluent German and lived in Europe for a total of 13 years. In LA, I taught english to a number of Korean and Japanese young adults. I taught at Inlingua and WIFI Institute in Austria and at a business english school in Hamburg.
We play word games, read out loud, discuss cartoons and ask each other questions/answers. Try to vary up the hour. I am a very patient teacher and try to assess if the student is understanding all that I am teaching. I ask plenty of questions and try to get them to communicate with me and others in the group, if it's a class situation.

During my undergraduate career, I was a teaching assistant for Physical Science and General Biology for two years. My responsibilities included teaching several lectures, the grading and any extra assistance needed by the students. After graduating, I taught High School chemistry for the Biola STAR program. During this time, I also tutored at a learning center in Fullerton. In 2007, I taught 3 sections of general chemistry lab at CSULB. I then moved to the education department at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and worked with the public there for 4 months before moving into a management position.
