A Little Bit About Me...

I was a straight A student throughout school. I am currently a high school senior, so the information is still fresh in my mind. I have spent a few semesters as a tutor and volunteer assistant in a local elementary school. I enjoy working with children and being able to help them succeed in school, because without school, the future is bleak!
I prefer a hands-on approach when possible. I lik to help the children relate to what they are learning in order to help them remember it.

I believe in teaching students at their ability level and building them up to be able to comprehend and complete grade level work. I am able to express material in a variety of teaching styles, finding the one that works best for my student(s).
I have been working with children academically since 2004 in a variety of settings: one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and in the classroom. My area of strength is with students who are low learners or have learning disabilities. I am certified in both Language Arts and Math as well as Special Education and have been teaching both subjects in 7th grade for the past 5 years in Moore County.

Passionate about learning.

I have experience as a peer tutor. Since I am an avid reader, I love all things related to books, vocabulary, literature and English. My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.
I have tutored fellow classmates in the past throughtout middle school and high school. I have a BA in English, an MEd in English Education, and an EdD in Higher Education Leadership. I have taught college English for many years, and I have taught and coached corporate leaders in leadership for many years as well.
