I worked with the Minnesota Literacy Council tutoring adult learners in basic math and reading skills. I attempted multiple approaches with each person until we found one that allowed the learner to make sense of the symbols and language. I encouraged the ability to work at the material until the learner could make it his/her own in some way. I also trained new employees each month in the use of a software program at a pharmaceutical company. Employees were required to learn the program regardless of experience and ability with computer programs. I was challenged to engage disinterested employees, encourage frustrated employees, and meet the demands of highly inquisitive employees while maintaining focus on the required information. I will ask a student some questions to find out what they know about the subject. I listen carefully for clues to potential obstacles the student is facing.

It is important for me to help students understand through real world examples. I do my best to develop training material and a learning environment that is relatable to their ultimate application. I believe that everyone learns in a different way so I approach teaching with a very adaptable style that adjusts to the person or people I am teaching. I love to find interesting and new ways to share information, and I find it very fullfilling to know that when I am finished teaching I have increased the opportunities for another person to succeed. I love to help people and help improve their education. I student taught in a fourth grade classroom this past semester. The classroom consisted of 29 students. I taught all subjects and incorporated many hands on experiences with each subject. I have taught second, third, fourth, and sixth grades. I was a camp counselor for five summers. During this experience I lead a cabin of females for a week at a time. My approach to teaching science is to begin by applying the basic principles of biology and chemistry to everyday life.
