Graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in education, certification in Social Studies, World History, and American History. Two years teaching English and developing teaching skills for teachers in Korea with the peace corps. Raised eleven children eight of whom have graduated or are now attending college. Currently doing research for Historical work that I am writing. Have spent numerous years substitute teaching. 25 years as a restaurant manager and owner with a hands on knowledge of skills needed for entering the workforce.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a former United States Marine and a recent college gradute with a bachelors degree in English and a minor in advertising. I am winner of the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Writting Award and I have also worked as a substitute teacher for the past 3 years. Lastly, I am TEFL certified. I have an excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.

My teaching-style is rigorous yet kind. My students say that no one has ever criticized their writing and thought so thoroughly and constructively. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. A Little Bit About Me...

Having moved between English, History, and Anthropology during my undergraduate years, I've surveyed quite an extensive portion of the social sciences. I have earned a major in Anthropology and a minor in History. The workloads for these courses included several 50+ page ethnographic reports in addition to the basic course curriculum. I've previously worked with children at the Kids on Campus program at OWC, teaching Songham Taekwando.
