During my undergraduate career, there were multiple influences that contributed to my passion for teaching. First, I tutored college students from Asia who were exchange students. This gave me the opportunity to apply what we learned in the classroom, and adapt to a culture that learns differently than Americans. Second, I tutored a high schooler in Spanish. I used this as a tool to see how a person can still learn when they are not interested in the subject. Third, I taught English last summer in Mexico. I was given a group of high school students, a book of lessons, and hardly any supplies. Resources were slim, but my creativity grew.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a preschool teacher for approximately 2 years in Head Start programs. I have substitute taught in the last year. I also was a early childhood special education paraprofessional for 1 year. I have also been a lead teacher in a learning center.
I prefer to assertive in discipline but try to understand where children are coming from. I want children to learn above all else. I think that you need to be understanding but stern. I think that you need to be compassionate yet thorough.

I have had extensive education in Math and Physics through college and graduate school. I worked as research scientist for 14 years after graduating from school. In the past seven years, I have been working with children with learning disabilities (autism, etc). I have taught communication, language, self-help, social skills and elementary level academics, using a technique called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). My passion for giving children the encouragement they need to succeed is paramount for me. I believe that because children are our future, it is a necessity that they have every resource to achieve their dreams.
