Tutoring Advantage was founded by Joan Robertson in 2006. Joan is a licensed teacher, trained in the Orton-Gillingham method and specializes in Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and learning disabilities. Joan attended Bemidji State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a math emphasis in November 1992. A Little Bit About Me...

I develop most of my lesson plans using GLAD principles. I like to use multiple senses, student interaction and various resources to keep the student active. When teaching a language, it is important to know the basic grammar structure first, and then speaking and listening follow. I work with people with disabilities, teaching them how to canoe with a company called Wilderness Inquiry. The company's motto is: Anyone, anywhere, anytime, any place. We strive to make this possible, because it is possible! It is possible to have a quadriplegic go on a canoe trip or a blind person to kayak through caves. I prefer to assertive in discipline but try to understand where children are coming from. I want children to learn above all else. I think that you need to be understanding but stern. I think that you need to be compassionate yet thorough.

I graduated from the University of Redlands, in Redlands, CA, with a BA in Liberal Studies and a minor in Communicative Disorders.
