I recently graduated with my Bachelors from the University of Tennessee. My degree is in English, but I have tons of experience tutoring in just about everything. My comments on tutoring Elementary : I have been an intern teacher in a third grade class room as well as worked with other young children. I am currently going to school to become an Elementary School teacher.

I have always wanted to teach! So any opportunity I got in high school I took it! I was enrolled in the teaching academy all through high school. Through this academy I got to intern/teach many different grade levels. I started with a kindergarten class and then moved up to 6th grade P.E. and Science, then I moved to 3rd grade. I was also hired by the school district to be an AVID tutor for 7th and 8th graders. I have danced most of my life so when I was offered to co-choreograph the plays at my old Middle School I took it and did that for four years. I am also currently volunteering at my church to teach a class for 3rd graders on Sundays.

Try to customize to students intrest in order to keeep attention and make as entertaining as possible. Every child sees things from different eyes. I just teach them how to look. I know that as a student I would hear one explanation that all of a sudden made things so clear and seem so simple. I try to find this for every individual student.
I have helped students from my church for the past eight years in math science and english. I have also worked with my sisters first grade students in math. I enjoy working with youth. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child when that " i get moment" happens and their face lights up with pride, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.

Being a student who had reading comprehension in early grades, I understand the shyness and frustration many students have with this difficulty. I respond to them with compassion, and often open up to them with a short story of my own experience. This way the student feels that I understand them and are more willing to learn the material I am trying to teach them. In the beginning I will sit down with the student and their parents to see what is their area of difficulty. I love to help children understand a subject better. It is a great feeling to see a student get the idea after being helped. I believe that every student is capable of learning; it all depends on their learning style. In my masters program and while I have been teaching, I have learned many ways to get students engaged in the material they are learning. Some students learn better with one on one and some do better with group work. You just have to try different approaches until you see which one works best.
