Since I have the opportunity to work one-on-one with students on a daily basis I try to tailor my teaching style to each student. When students are more visual I try to use photos or stories to explain concepts. However, when students learn better by reading I allow them to do so, and discuss the reading after they have had time to absorb the information. I feel like I have to adjust to each student's individual learning style when trying to teach.
I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in School Counseling and work as an intern at McCaskey High School. In addition to counseling I am interested in tutoring students, as I believe with a solid education anything is possible. While pursuing my BA in International Business and Culture I decided to add additional courses into my schedule enabling me to also receive minors in Mathematics and Spanish. Outside of my studies I worked for two different families in neighboring communities and helped the children in their school work. Although the girls did not always find my math jokes as funny as I did, they have all excelled in their studies, especially math. I have about two years experience as teacher. I taught for a brief period of time in 1977 when I taught Chemistry and Biology at a high school in Lagos Nigeria. I also helped students in college who had difficulty with Math between 1978 when I was a student at Camden County College in Blackwood New Jersey.
While teaching is not my main profession, I enjoy teaching because in most cases, I was able to build a level of confidence in my students. Often times I found that some people simply have a phobia about certain subjects.
