A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. Enabling a student to go out and discover the wonders around him/her through research and education is a wonderful thing indeed.

My teaching style is participatory. I like to ask questions of the student and have them verbalize what they know. This gives me the opportunity to identify possible gaps in their knowledge and to fill in those gaps. I also try to relate covered material to historical events. For instance, when talking about the importance of analytical chemistry, I like to talk about the Marsh test which was developed in the 1830’s as a definitive reaction for arsenic poisoning. In like manner, I like to relate covered material to the personal experiences of the student. Illustrative examples that I have used are the importance of distillation to the alcoholic beverage and petroleum industries, along with how companies like McDonald’s would employ chemists skilled in flavors and fragrances (i.e., flavorists). A Little Bit About Me...

I am a person who has spent his undergraduate years majoring in Chemistry, with Physics and Math. Thereafter, I switched my major to Biology because I wanted to do Brain Research and to do such research one has to have an interdisciplinary background. Currently, I am a PhD student majoring in Neurosciences. After my undergraduate education, I went to teach in a boarding school. I taught all science courses to students from grade 8 until grade 11. Each of those grades comprised of approximately 30 students. The kids loved me so much that they wanted to hire me for another semester but i had to go to graduate school. I also supervised lab exercise designed for sophomore and junior students at Bowling Green State University.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an MBA graduate I have consistently sought to continually improve and manage as many aspects of life that are presented to me. While achieving my BA in Philosophy I stretched my focus into the areas of science and mathematics, given my strengths in those areas. My MBA in Management facilitated the integration of my math and science skills into a practical system of approach and practice. My Calculus skills come in handy while everyone else is doing summations, I find integrals much faster.
