More About This Tutor...

I am receiving my Bachelors in Marine Biology at Rollins College in May 2012. I have had experiences in many different disciplines within Marine Biology. I have worked in a biological stockroom for four years in addition to performing experiments in a lab, so I am very familiar with scientific techniques and equipment. I have taken part in multiple field studies, where I have sampled environments and classified organisms present in that environment. I have also worked on a formal research project at Florida Atlantic University, studying the presence of a parasite in bivalve populations along the Indian River Lagoon. I have taken classes in chemistry, physics, and general biology, as well as more specific topics, such as invertebrate zoology, animal physiology, genetics, ecology, marine biology and oceanography.

I've worked as an environmental scientist for the past 15 years. I have a B.S. Biology/Limnology and completed General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry. I have many years of experience related to preparing scientific reports. I enjoy tutoring.
I enjoy sharing what I know and have learned with others. I have a 7 year old son and believe patience is a valuable characteristic of mine. I'm also very easing going and get along well with most people. When tutoring, I first attempt to help someone understand a subject especially chemistry as structured in the text book but whenever possible, if the situation requires, I will try to simplify the subject in any way possible until the student makes it over the hump and then the text version usually becomes more clear.

I discovered my love for teaching and working with children in the Dominican Republic while on an alternative spring break working with at-risk youth living on the streets of the city of Santiago. With this experience I learned that one of the most important thing in the world is education, and I began my life as an educator. With tutoring I try to implement a facilitated teaching method that involves students pushing themselves to learn. As far as my teaching style goes, I think it is the role of the student to want to learn, and if they are struggling with this concept I work to motivate them to understand the necessity and great opportunities that education provides.
I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in biology and chemistry minor. I finished with honors, while in the honors program and Phi Eta Sigma honor society and the Golden Key honor society. Thro ... read more

I have worked with children since high school as a baby-sitter. Now I am involved in the education field and could not be happier. I have worked hard in my own education to learn how to be the most effective teacher I can be for your children. I have learned numerous techniques on how to teach all sorts of concepts. As a teacher, I believe if the lesson is intriguing to the student, then they will learn. My goal is to find out what works best for your child as a student and then make sure that their academic needs are met. Our tutoring sessions would be full of knowledge, but also enjoyable. An engaged student, is a student who learns. I hope to teach all my students to the best of my ability.

As a non-traditional student, my college experience awarded me many advantages, as well as, many opportunities to uncover hidden skills. I began tutoring for Student Support Services while attending community college in Southwest Virginia. I worked with adults, disabled and traditional students in many subject areas. This led to establishing the Eagle's Wing Mentoring Program while attending Florida Gulf Coast University for the first two years. I later transferred to the Office of Adaptive Services where I am currently still working with a wide variety of students.
As I discovered while in college, I have been instructing people all of my life. While working in the food-service industry for the past twenty-plus years, I have held supervisory positions and provided training to literally hundreds of employees. This natural ability to work with others became apparent when I beg ... read more
