I am very patient especially for students who learn slower than others because I was always a slow learner myself. I am very happy to repeat myself or go over other examples to help the student understand the concept. I also like to emphasize concept over memorization. Of course, math has a good amount of memorization, and yes, it is important; however, I believe that learning concept is more useful than sheer memorization, and understanding a concept is better than memorizing formulas and properties.

My comments on tutoring Geometry : For the last 12 years I have tutored children between the ages of 5 and 18 in math, algebra, and geometry.

I hold a BA in foreign languages (Spanish, English) from La Sorbonne, Paris France. As well as a Master in International Business from Paris, and an MBA in finance from the University of Illinois. I worked as a French teacher for the Berlitz School of Languages and Alliance Francaise. Most of my students were immersion students (often entire families) who planned to relocate to France, Quebec or West Africa. My comments on tutoring Geometry : As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students with Geometry problems for 7 years, and know where students tend to stumble.

I taught college-level Plant Science for 14 years. I spent 7 years as a tutor of Math and Science at the college-prep after-school program Upward bound, helping students with homework and preparing them for the ACT and the SAT. I am currently employed as a Math tutor at a local technical college where I help students with Basic Math, Intro Algebra,Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trig and Elementary Statistics.
I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them,and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
