During my time as a tutor and my Student Teaching experience through SUNY Geneseo, I felt I could help any student at any time. I feel like I can relate to students and can help them learn. I believe any student can learn well by relating the material they learn in school to their everyday lives and I think i can help them make these connections. When helping students who are struggling, I feel it is important to take challenging material and break it down to smaller, less overwhelming, parts. I try to work at a pace that is comfortable for the student and also meets the academic requirements for their program. I have a lot of patience and encourage students to try even when they are not familiar or comfortable with a subject. The first step is always the hardest. I believe anyone can learn and feel no one is too old to go back to school. Learning and education should be encouraged no matter what stage of life we are at.
I earned Associate’s degrees in Liberal Arts and Accounting, as well as a Certificate in Office Technology. I had the highest GPA for both the Certificate and the AS in Accounting at the same time. I am a firm believer in teaching through examples. I present the topic then provide an example and then lead the student through an example then have the student do an example by themselves. I am very patient.
I double majored at Nazareth College in Business Administration and Mathematics. While in school I tutored at a Rochester city elementary school focusing on literacy. I also tutored for the Academic Advisement department in algebra, calculus, physics, and economics. I attended graduate school at RIT and was a teaching assistant for calculus classes.
