I am hands on. I personally learn best from things like powerpoints and handouts. This is also the way I tend to teach others.
I am a high school senior in the AP/Honors program at Warner Robins High School. I have two little sisters who I have tutored since they began school. On average, they have scored higher on tests when I have helped, particularly in the area of social studies. I have also helped multiple students at my school. The average that they score on a test is typically ten points higher than when they study by themselves and, in some cases, twenty points if the student does not study at all. The results are typically better in social studies, the subject which I am most proficient in, but all subjects tend to shoe significant improvement.

For some subjects, repetition is very important and for others a clearer understanding of the concepts involved is more valuable. I like to start with small skills and build on them.

Graduating from Fort Valley State University with two degrees in education gave me a sense of direction. I have a sincere desire to help improve the future of our nation's children. I began volunteering in a literacy program that sought to help children and adult improve their reading comprehension skills. The volunteers read to the children or allow the children to read to them, review stories with them, and ask them questions pertaining to the stories. After receiving my teacher certification from the state of Georgia, I taught the 4th grade for 3 years. This grade is inclusive, so I taught all subject. During those 3 years and even later I tutored reading and math to a variety of students.

As a substitute teacher I never really was able to develop a specific style of teaching. Each teacher had their own way of doing things and each class was different. However, I feel the best way for anyone to learn be it adult or student is to let the student take the lead. I would give them the instructions as to what needs to be accomplished, let them do the work, and be there for any questions or assistance that would be needed.
