Love Teaching

Have a secondary education degree from Jacksonville State University. I have tutored before and have had several substitute jobs. I believe in letting the student teach sometimes by being an active participant in the learning experience. I think students do better when they can see the material, read the material, and explain the material because it makes them retain the information.

I've tutored two kids in my neighborhood for 40 buck every two weeks. It was a marvelous experience because they were very respectful young boys...majority of the time. It was kind of hard for them to keep their focus so i drew a plan which was rewarding them with candy and toys, and of course since it was my idea I didn't charge extra. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to tutor them anymore because had to move with my mother. All in all, no matter the task I will always try my best to achieve!!!

Possession is 9/10 of the law.. Description is 9/10 of saw.

I have been writing for my whole life, and have a love of the art that is description. Since Mich of humanity's understanding is based on metaphor, description and its subtleties is a key part of any writing process, be it creative or instructional. My favorite form of writing is creative, however I also enjoy writing essays and other pieces based on fact. No matter what form of writing you endeavor to do, getting your point across through description is paramount. I have placed and won poetry contests, and have written many essays of undergraduate and graduate levels.

My goal when teaching a student is to explain the subject in the most simplest way possible. So next time the student is back in the classroom, they will have some understanding of what the teacher is teaching. I also like to get an understanding of the way the student learns. This helps me when deciding on teaching techniques.
I have over 10 years in tutoring elementary and high school students. I started tutoring in 2000 with the YMCA's after-school program. I stayed there for six years before taking a break to finish college. In summer 2009, I started tutoring with the Boys & Girls Club in Montevallo. I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions, group activities, etc.) so students stay interested and because every student learns differently. I believe there needs to be mutual respect between the students and teachers. The classroom should be a place where students enjoy learning, feel safe, and are respected as individuals.
Most of my experience is working with students who have issues beyond a normal student whether it be learning disabilities, behavior problems,or emotional/phsychological issues. I have taught in many alternative school settings, but I have also taugh ... read more

During high school, my teacher requested that I help others in my class and I realized how much I loved helping others understand how accounting works. Also in helping my children with their school work, I have learned that each child is different and learns in different ways. I would describe my style of teaching as finding out how a particular student learns best and work form that foundation. Some learn better by seeing an example and then working it out on their own with someone to consult if they get stuck. Other learn better with what they hear and others what they read. It is better to see how each person learns best and teach from that angle. Also, patience is the greatest teaching aid available to any teacher or student.
I earned both of my degrees while working and caring for very young children. I feel this was possible because of my time management skills and dete ... read more

I have many years of teaching specialised reading to special needs students. I have experience in individual plans, diagnosing reading difficulties, task anaylsis in all areas of education. I have taught both general and special education, as well as youth at risk. I have a proven record of success
I believe that every student has the potential to succeed in the area of learning new knowledge. Therefore I like to use a diagnosis method to find out the best method to reach the student. The most important facet is to build a rapport with the learner. This method has served me and the students I have worked with well through the years.

I thoroughly enjoy working with, teaching, and learning from children. I approach teaching with the belief that all students are capable of excelling if both they and the teacher have the appropriate attitude. With an easygoing (and hopefully fun) style of teaching, I strive to instill in students the excitement of learning.
While attending Birmingham Southern College, I had several teaching experiences: I volunteered as a tutor at a nearby elementary school, tutored in my college's writing center, and worked for three summers as a camp counselor. After receiving a BA in English, I taught high school English conversation in Hungary for a year. My ultimate goal is to teach English at a university, but I love working with primary and secondary schoolers. Given my reading, writing, and editing experience (as well as my extensive experience working with children), I feel comfortabl ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate from the American University of Paris, a private university in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, France, I am qualified to be a French language tutor. Not only do I hold a Journalism degree, with a specialty in French, I also completed a French language and civilization course at La Sorbonne in 2004. I lived for many years in Paris and I have worked in two businesses in Paris: Leading Art Galleries (an art publication) and the International Chamber of Commerce (the largest, most representative business organization in the world). While I lived in Paris, I was a nanny for French families, where I helped students learn English.
I am patient with my students, and I also work hard to make the learning experience fun. My first French teacher at Mountain Brook High school used wonderful methods to introduce our class to the language. She showed us French movies and oth ... read more

As a mother and a certified teacher, I enjoy teaching, tutoring, and working with students of all ages. Through receiving my teaching degree, I recognize the importance of individualized instruction as well as the importance of maintaining patience with and providing comfortable environments for students. I enjoy assisting students reach and exceed their goals. I feel that the best way to help a student understand a concept, or subject, is to determine his or her individual learning style, interests, and perspectives. This type of instruction is not always practical in a classroom, which is why I began tutoring. All students have the potential to succeed, and I am here to assist you or your child in achieving that success.

During graduate school, I was a substitute teacher, taught a teaching writing practicum at UAB, and was a reading tutor. I was a student teacher for 8th grade language arts, and then I was a real teacher for 6th grade English. I have taken 18 hours of graduate level English classes, and this is more than is required to earn a Master's degree in secondary English education. I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Samford University, and my background in psychology is also useful as I help students learn.
I think differentiated instruction is the best way to teach. This essentially means changing up the instruction in an effort to allow all students to learn. Because students have different learning styles, teachers should try to teach the material in new, different, and creative ways. Teachers should consider the way that the particular child learns best (ex. auditory, vi ... read more

As a recent graduate, I have learned the importance of education. I have earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Not only do I contain a strong understanding in those subjects but took several classes in other areas to become a well-rounded individual. I dedicated my time most of my time to studies but I also took time out to participate in campus activities, as well as, participate in numerous volunteer programs. I received rewards for my dedication to tutoring and mentoring the youth in the inner city.
I enjoy working, teaching, and mentoring children. I have learned to adjust to the different learning styles of children, which makes it easier for the child to feel more comfortable with learning. Typically I incorporate a heavy communicative approach to the subject I am teaching, allowing knowledge to be shared through communication. Communication with the student helps to enforce the context of the material, which is essential for full comprehension. Once communication, context, and comprehension have been achieved, I encourage the student to independently solve the problem or demonstrate their newly gained ability in ways useful for the learning process to continue. I usually take a comfortable pace with my student, determining their needs, and intensify my approach as needed. Teaching is, for me, a way to guide a student closer towards the information they seek by showing new and creative ways to approach information.
