A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the key to teaching is finding what each child is interested in and making that connection. Every child is unique and learns best in their own special way. Teachers have the ability to change the world and I feel extremely lucky to be a part of that.
Upon graduation from the University of Toledo, I have worked in two different school districts and in almost every grade level. In the Springfield district I was a teacher aid in both first and second grade where I assisted children with learning disabilities. I currently am working with the Bedford school district where I am a literacy coach and I teach students from K-6th grade to because better readers. I also work with these students on their Math skills. In my free time I work at subway and I coach Freshman girls basketball at springfield high school and rec. co-ed soccer.

I have worked in education at the community college level for several years. I worked as an English Tutor for four years at Washtenaw Community College before being asked to join the part-time teaching staff. My class load consisted mostly of Composition I and Technical Writing classes; occasionally I would substitute for Literature courses when needed. In addition to my educational experience, I also have corporate experience working as a Technical Writer/Documentation Specialist in companies such as: EDS, GM, and Consumer Energy.

My teaching style has defiantly evolved over the years working with a wide variety of students and learning styles. I have learned that each student is unique, and should not be underestimated simply because of a diagnosis or so called disability. I do my best to approach each student s learning style with an open mind and a wide range of possible strategies and tools. I prefer working with African American children. I believe they are usually the most neglected children in the public school systems. I try to work as a mentor and guide children through projects and activties, rather than work as their "guru". I believe all children are gifted they just need the direction and encouragement to steer them through their experiences. I use child centered approaches to teaching by using hands-on activities and project based lessons.

Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible.
