A Little Bit About Me...

As I prepared for Medical School, I wanted to achieve the most possible out of my undergraduate experience at Brigham Young University. I chose Biology as my major, knowing that it would challenge me. I took several courses in Biology and Chemistry in which I performed very well. I understand how frustrating the concepts in these subjects can be, so patience is what is needed to grasp them. I have helped several fellow classmates comprehend the concepts needed to do well on their exams and retain the information for the future.
I feel that repetition is one key that helps students grasp difficult concepts. I start by helping the student understand what the question is asking. Then I will do a problem step by step, showing the student what I am doing. I think all children are driven to learn, and if directed with a little help, everyone can learn how science changes peoples lives. I feel more like a coach and less like a lecturer. If you can make connections between things they know, and the things you are trying to teach them, they will have something to "hang" that new knowledge on!
I have been a classroom teacher for the last 18 years. I have taught in both Public Junior High and High Schools, as well as Private School. I love teaching science, and love to make the class exciting. It really gets students going when you use current events to teach and when kids debate issues, it is a great learning opportunity!
