German is one of my top subjects! I am a U.S.-born American citizen, but, due to my childhood status as a military brat, spent 10 total years in Germany. During my time there, I immersed myself in the language and in the culture, even spending one year of my undergraduate studies at a German university. I extended my knowledge of German at the university (The University of the South, The University of Colorado) and now hold a Bachelor's and a Master's in German. I also have two years of formal university-level teaching experience as a teaching assistant at CU Boulder. My experience with the German language occupies the past 12 years of my life. I began learning the language when I was 11 years old and had moved to Germany because my parents were employed by the U.S. Air Force. While in Germany, I was constantly immersed in the German culture and economy, and made many German, Austrian, and Swiss friends with whom I spoke German daily. It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is facilitative. I ask a lot of questions and require my students to practice a minimum of 3 examples in front of me for every technique I explain. I have a fun style and enjoy watching the confidence grow in my pupils. The only child that ever lost interest in what I had to say was my own. :)

One of my greatest pleasures in life has been the opportunity to teach my children after school, help them with their home work, and teach them how to develop lifelong good study habits. My college education was very self driven and self propelled. I received three academic scholarships throughout my college career and maintained a 3.84 GPA for the entire four years. At the close of my four years, I earned a BS is History, giving me a particularly good foundation in the humanities and English composition.
