Saxophone is one of my top subjects! I have two degrees in saxophone; classical under-grad, and master's in jazz studies. I can teach all styles of music.

I served as lead tenor saxophonist for the 56th Army Band Ft Lewis WA from 2000-2004. My musical diversity landed me in concert band, big band, jazz combo, Dixie-land band, Latin jazz combo, show band(pop/rock), among others. I received a jazz merit scholarship to play 1st tenor for UCO's top jazz band. I have been recognized for outstanding musicianship by the International Association of Jazz Educators multiple times. I have had the pleasure of performing with a Grammy Award winning Jazz Vocalist, and several other giants in the jazz business. I have tutored numerous students over the last 15 years along my military and educational pursuits.
It varies depending on the needs of the student. I am patient, but meticulous when it comes to music. I am very open about my philosophy that music is hard work, but also is a ton of fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am graduating in May 2010 with a undergraduate degree in English Education. I have worked in several school districts as tutor, observer, and student teaching. I have personally worked in the following areas: Speech/Drama, English, and Middle school tutoring. I have worked with students in the 6-12 grades. I have also worked with Southern Nazarene University as a Teacher's Assistant. I have worked close with students and teachers to help students become better communicators, especially in a written aspect.
I believe my job is not to force the student to learn. I want to create a passion for learning (even if student does not like the subject). Students have to take responsibility for learning. The tutors job is to help students reach full potential.

I truly enjoy working with students. In my experience, many students get discouraged when they become confused with the content of material they are studying. I feel that in many cases, it is just as important to teach students how to learn as it is to teach what to learn; consequently, I advocate a step by step teaching method that allows the student to focus on what they do know, rather than what they do not know. As the student begins to understand each step, they become able to develop the required problem solving skills. I believe that the role of a tutor goes beyond the classroom, which is why I use a laid-back, pragmatic approach that matches my patient and easy going personality.
