I help students to think.

I taught English for 40 years and am now recently retired. I taught English overseas while in the US Peace Corps, 1969-71. I taught English at MATC for two years. Most of my career was at the high school level teaching all types of classes, such as literature, Shakespeare, creative writing, reading, plays and drama, speech, etc. after retirement, I became a writing facilitator for elementary teachers. I worked with grades 1-8 teaching the six traits of writing. I have also tutored several students.
I am an interactive teacher, and I believe in step by step instructions when needed. Most importantly, I believe in the power of clear thinking combined with creative thinking. My degree is in secondary education with a minor in philosophy and a major in English.

I have a passion for learning and I always make sure that people around me also discover it in themselves. That is the the reason why I am constantly around learning activities. I have been a tutor many times in various settings. I am at present a Level 2 coach in Track and Field from the USATF organization. I enjoy coaching since it is closely related to teaching. Teaching is my passion and my life. There is no other career that I would desire to teach. I am a very firm, but fair teacher. My teaching styles vary depending on the lesson being taught. Hands on activities are very important to me, and I will incorportate them into the lesson as often as possible. Technology is also very important to me. I have a lot of experience with the Elmo, overheads, projectors, and other programs associated with Microsoft. Parental involvement is very important to me as well, and I try very hard to build great rapport with parents, and will keep them involved in their child's education.

As a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University, I taught composition, primarily using popular culture as a topic for expository writing and developing critical thinking skills and techniques. I have also served as a substitute teacher in the Rockford Public Schools in several subject areas. Most recently, I spent five+ years as the Communications Editor for a global manufacturing company, where I was responsible for all sales literature and communication in the North American market. Having tired of the office environment and its distractions, I was fortunate enough to be able to resign this position and now offer my services on a freelance basis, which allows me to focus solely on what I enjoy in my work.
I believe that learning occurs through doing, particularly when it comes to writing. Students become better writers by putting pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). Th ... read more

Teaching is my passion. Besides being a mother, it is the thing that most defines me. I believe that learning is innate in all individuals, but, if an individual lacks passion, they will struggle at seeing their potential. As a teacher, it is my role to help each student find their own passion in learning. For some students, their passion is shown through reading and writing. For others, it is shown through their creations. For some, their passion is obvious; while for others, they need to have it teased out of them. I enjoy the challenge of helping students find their potential and their passion. Once they have found it, I love watching it grow!
I have spent the last 10 years educating young adults in both high school and college. I have taught in brick and mortar schools and in online institutions. In both, I have worked with students who are strong, natural learners who ... read more

I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. I do not wish to be a teacher by profession but I do enjoy helping individuals or small groups with science and mathematics.
I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
