I believe that learning is ongoing throughout life, and that we all differ in our learning styles. I like to present a topic so that it is fun, usually with tactile work using math manipulatives, or flash cards, props, and games that teach conceptual thinking skills, and methods of learning using visuals, as well as auditory cues.

I have earned two Bachelor's degrees, BA Biology/Chemistry with a concentration in Secondary Education and the second a BS in Medical Laboratory Science. Following graduation in 1987 with my first degree I taught High School Science for 4 years at 2 separate private schools – one in Wakefield, MA and the other in Columbus, OH. After two years of teaching, my desire was to enter the medical field whereby my employer provided tuition coverage for a degree in Medical Technology. I believe in the expression “that you have two ears on one mouth for a reason, in that you should listen twice as much as you speak.” You have to know what the problem is before you can begin to solve it. I learned to be patient, understanding and compassionate when dealing with a student’s learning style one-on-one. I have acquired the skills to adapt to an individual’s unique learning style by using their other senses. A student will learn most effectively by utilizing various parts of the brain by seeing it, hearing it and writing it down. I enjoy teaching high schoolers for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of how honest I can be with them. I enjoy teaching hands-on, real life application of the sciences in a way that students can understand the concept as well as the usefulness to them out in the real world.
