I will graduate this summer with a doctorate of arts in Mathematics. I have taught a total of 14 undergraduate-level mathematics courses in a broad range of subject ranging from developmental math to linear algebra. As an undergraduate, I worked part time in the Idaho State University tutoring center tutoring mathematics up to the calculus 3 level. I am a very energetic and interactive teacher. I am quite patient with my students and try to use many different techniques to allow for different learning styles. I find that I can effectively motivate my students and get them excited about math.

I am a troubleshooter. In my experience, there is usually one aspect of mathematics that a student has never been comfortable with, one aspect that poisons his or her interactions with all other facets of the subject. I begin by meeting a student on his or her own terms: we talk about the class and we go over the exercises that the student currently struggles to complete. That process gives me the information I need to pinpoint the source of the trouble, however far back it goes, and then we may begin working in earnest to resolve the underlying deficit. I have 2 years experience in tutoring high-school and college-level math and computer science (programming and database design) while studying computer science in college from 1996-1998. During that time I also taught small classes in computer usage (email and internet) at the Kennewick Senior Center. I later earned a bachelor degree in math at Portland State University in 2004, participating in study groups there. My recent work experience was in help desk, drafting, and geographic information systems. My experience as a teacher has given me the opportunity to teach math, science, history, literature, reading and writing to a very diverse group of students.
