A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching elementary students since 1995 in 1st and 4th grades. I have taught all subject areas, especially language arts and math. I want to encourage students to think for themselves and to work through their learning in a way that makes sense to them. Here is a Greek proverb to consider: All good things good to know are difficult to learn.
Whenever possible, I use highlighters, colored pencils, hands-on manipulatives, and other items to help students learn.

Writing is hard. For everyone. But it can be easier.

As a student, I earned a 3.87 in my major of English Arts, while both working as an employee for the school writing center and as a contributor for the school newspaper. I also did a lot of moonlighting outside of the writing center as a personal tutor for undergrads, high school, and elementary students, all with various experience in English as a language. I have produced over a thousand pages of academic writing during my time at school concerning a wide variety of subjects, which is a reflection of the broad English curriculum for the University at Albany and my minor of sociology. After I graduated as a Business Administration, I certified in Early Childhood – 4th Grade in Bilingual Education, here in Texas. I have been working in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th Grade as a Bilingual Teacher, also, teaching ESL in High School and 1st Semester in University. A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I have always believed that the greatest joy in teaching is when learning has taken place. I always start where the child is and then help them come up and go beyond where the need to be. Each child is capable of so many great achievements and I will work with them to discover what works best for them.
As a classroom teacher, I had the pleasure of teaching students from second the seventh grade. For the elementary grades, I taught all subjects, at the middle school level, I taught language arts. While tutoring, I assisted students in reading, math, and writing. I have also assisted adults, whose first language is not English, with work related documents. As a volunteer, I have helped the Children's Librarian and also led some reading activities at the library.
