When I was teaching beginner-level German to an adult opera singer, I focused on helping her develop her conversational skills and pronunciation, using English to explain difficult concepts. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to catch up mistakes and correct them but my priority is in teaching by showing examples or patterns, by practicing repetitions, by having learner write. For instance, when I took the initiative of teaching french to my newborn (now a teen), I used to flip and "read" small colorful one-large-drawing-per-page books with a noun written with its article. Afterwards, every so often and when the child is ready, to go up one level of difficulty, I did just that and my child spoke fluently with complete sentences at age 13 months. Today, her french is so clear that no one could guess she also speaks english.
