English Teacher with Excellent Experience!

I initially got my start as an English tutor for refugees in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area in 2002. I then moved to China where I worked as an English teacher in for eight years returning to the US in 2011. My experiences ranges from university freshmen English majors up through non-English major PhD students. I have also taught in a community English program in China in which my students ranged from age 12 through 52. While the majority of my experience is in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing classes, I have also taught such content courses as debate, newspapers, American history and economics. I have taught English at a private school in Ansan, South Korea for 1 year from March 2009 to February 2010. I taught children from ages 5-14. This was a full time job. I take close consideration of each child’s ability in the language and cater to his or her individual needs. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught two years of middle school and home schooled my daughter. I have worked as a substitute teacher on and off for several years. My emphasis in college was English and Math so I feel very comfortable teaching either of these subjects as well as reading.
My teaching style is flexible. Students learn in different ways and at different paces. It is my job to discover how the students learn and what they respond best to. For some subjects, repetition is very important and for others a clearer understanding of the concepts involved is more valuable. I like to start with small skills and build on them.
